The Mass of the Commemoration of All Faithful Departed

PRELUDE

PROCESSIONAL For All The Saints

THE OPENING ACCLAMATION

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord, and let light

perpetual shine upon them.

Thou, O God, art praised in Zion, and unto thee shall the vow be performed in

Jerusalem; thou that hearest the prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY

The Lord be with you.

And with thy spirit.

Let us pray.

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and

fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to

follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to

those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you;

through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,

one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

THE FIRST LESSON: WISDOM 3:1-9

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever

touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their

departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their

destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were

punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they

will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of

himself; like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt

offering he accepted them. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth,

and will run like sparks through the stubble. They will govern nations and rule

over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them forever. Those who trust in him

will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace

and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The Psalm Psalm 116: 1, 10-17

Dilexi, quoniam

1 I love the LORD, because he has heard the

voice of my supplication, *

because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called

upon him.

10 How shall I repay the LORD *

for all the good things he has done for |me?

11 I will lift up the cup of salvation *

and call upon the Name of the LORD.

12 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD *

in the presence of all his people.

13 Precious in the sight of the LORD *

is the death of his servants.

14 O LORD, I am your servant; *

I am your servant and the child of your handmaid;

you have freed me from my bonds.

15 I will offer you the sacrifice of thanks giving *

and call upon the Name of the LORD.

16 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD *

in the presence of all his people,

17 In the courts of the LORD'S house, *

in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.

Hallelujah!

THE SECOND LESSON: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:13-18

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who

have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For

since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God

will bring with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word

of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord,

will by no means precede those who have died. For the Lord himself, with a cry

of command, with the archangel's call and with the sound of God's trumpet,

will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are

alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet

the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage

one another with these words.

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

SEQUENCE HYMN: WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS

THE GOSPEL: JOHN 5:24-27

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.

Glory be to Thee, O Christ.

Jesus said, "Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him

who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgment, but has

passed from death to life.

"Very truly, I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will

hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For just as the

Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself;

and he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of

Man. "

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

THE SERMON: The Rev. Hank Tuell

Concluding Collect

eternal kingdom.

Amen.

THE OFFERTORY SENTENCE

We offer thee, O Lord, this sacrifice of prayer and praise: do thou receive it for

the souls whose memory we this day recall; make them, O Lord, to pass from

death unto life.

Which thou didst promise of old unto Abraham and his seed.

THE OFFERTORY HYMN: ABIDE WITH ME

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you.

And with thy spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is meet and right so to do

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in

all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting

God.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who rose victorious from the dead, and doth

comfort us with the blessed hope of everlasting life; for to thy faithful people,

O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body doth lie in

death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens.

Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven,

we laud and magnify thy glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying,

Holy, holy, holy, Lord

God of power and might.

Heaven and Earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest

Blessed is He who come in the name of the Lord

Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest,.

All glory be to thee, Almighty God, our heavenly Father, for that thou, of thy

tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the

cross for our redemption; who made there, by his one oblation of himself once

offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for

the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command

us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice,

until his coming again.

For in the night in which he was betrayed, he took bread; and when he had

given thanks, he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take, eat, this is

my Body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he

gave it to them, saying, "Drink ye all of this; for this is my Blood of the New

Testament, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this,

as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me."

Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, according to the institution of thy

dearly beloved Son our Savior Jesus Christ, we, thy humble servants, do

celebrate and make here before thy divine Majesty, with these thy holy gifts,

which we now offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to

make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his

mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; rendering unto thee most hearty

thanks for the innumerable benefits procured unto us by the same.

And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us; and, of thy

almighty goodness, vouchsafe to bless and sanctify, with thy Word and Holy

Spirit, these thy gifts and creatures of bread and wine; that we, receiving them

according to thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance

of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed Body and Blood.

And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our

sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly beseeching thee to grant

that, by the merits and death of thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in his

blood, we, and all thy whole Church, may obtain remission of our sins, and all

other benefits of his passion.

And here we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, our selves, our souls and

bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto thee; humbly

beseeching thee that we, and all others who shall be partakers of this Holy

Communion, may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of thy

Son Jesus Christ, be filled with thy grace and heavenly benediction, and made

one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him.

And although we are unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer unto thee

any sacrifice, yet we beseech thee to accept this our bounden duty and

service, not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offences, through Jesus

Christ our Lord; By whom, and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, all

honor and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end.

Amen.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to sing,

THE LORD'S PRAYER

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD

Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.

Therefore, let us keep the feast.

THE INVITATION

The gifts of God for the people of God.

THE COMMUNION

COMMUNION HYMN: SHALL WE GATHER AT THE RIVER

THE POST COMMUNION PRAYER

Let us pray.

Almighty God, we thank thee that in thy great love thou hast fed us with the

spiritual food and drink of the Body and Blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and hast

given unto us a foretaste of thy heavenly banquet. Grant that this Sacrament

may be unto us a comfort in affliction, and a pledge of our inheritance in that

kingdom where there is no death, neither sorrow nor crying, but the fullness of

joy with all thy saints; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED

Give rest, O Christ, to thy servants with thy saints:

Where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Thou only art immortal, the creator and maker of humankind; and we are

mortal, formed of the earth, and unto earth shall we return. For so thou didst

ordain when thou createdst me, saying, “Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt

thou return.” All we go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our

song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Give rest, O Christ, to thy servants with thy saints, where sorrow and pain are

no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

THE NECROLOGY OF THE PARISH

The names of the Faithful Departed will be read in memoriam.

THE LITANY FOR THE DEPARTED

God the Father,

Have mercy on thy servants.

God the Son,

Have mercy on thy servants.

God the Holy Spirit,

Have mercy on thy servants.

Holy Trinity, one God,

Have mercy on thy servants.

From all evil, from all sin, from all tribulation,

Good Lord, deliver them.

By thy holy Incarnation, by thy Cross and Passion, by thy precious Death and

Burial,

Good Lord, deliver them.

By thy glorious Resurrection and Ascension, and by the Coming of the Holy

Spirit,

Good Lord, deliver them.

We sinners beseech thee to hear us, Lord Christ: That it may please thee to

deliver the soul of thy servants from the power of evil, and from eternal death,

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord

That it may please thee mercifully to pardon all their sins.

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to grant them a place of refreshment and everlasting

blessedness,

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to give them joy and gladness in thy kingdom, with thy

saints in light,

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Jesus, Lamb of God:

Have mercy upon them.

Jesus, bearer of our sins:

Have mercy upon them.

Jesus, redeemer of the world:

Grant them thy peace.

Lord, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy.

Deliver thy servants, O Sovereign Lord Christ, from all evil, and set them free

from every bond; that they may rest with all thy saints in the eternal habitations; there with the Father and the Holy Spirit thou livest and reignest, one God, for

ever and ever.

Amen

THE BLESSING

God the Father, by whose love Christ was raised from the dead, open to you

who believe the gates of everlasting life.

Amen.

God the Son, who, in bursting the grave has won a glorious victory, give you

joy as you share the Easter faith.

Amen.

God, the Holy Spirit, whom the risen Lord breathed into His disciples, empower

you and fill you with Christ’s peace.

Amen.

THE RECESSIONAL: THE DAY THOU GAVEST, LORD, IS ENDED

THE DISMISSAL

Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit.

Thanks be to God.
